Ukraine is the ninth largest country in the world in terms of the number of Internally Displaced Persons. Following the start of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the Government of Ukraine reports some 1.5 million IDPs.

Most of the IDPs are from Crimea and Donbas. Whilst initially they received substantial assistance from various NGOs and the Ukranian government, they are mostly left top fed for thwemselves. Whilst many have jobs, housing has been particularly difficult and many live in squalid conditions with no running water, heat or electricity.
